A biological response to severe infection, sepsis kills more people than breast cancer, prostate cancer and HIV/AIDS combined. Jamey Marth, the Carbon Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Mellichamp Professor of Systems Biology at UCSB, has discovered a method to increase survival in sepsis — a finding that could one day see millions of lives saved.
