UCSB Physicist Receives NSF CAREER Award

For his project titled “Quantum emulation of strongly driven interacting systems.” The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced David Weld, assistant professor in UC Santa Barbara's Department of Physics, as the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award. Weld does research on optical lattice-based materials. Using these materials, Weld and his research team emulate the behavior of electronic solids on ultrafast-equivalent timescales, thus probing some of the fastest processes in atomic physics using some of the slowest.
