UCSB Team Discovers How to Change Cell Types by Flipping a Single Switch


What if an organ could be induced to change identities? If a heart cell could become a brain cell with a simple flip of a switch? Such biological 'remodeling' may one day be possible, say researchers Joel Rothman, a professor in UCSB’s Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and Ph.D. student Misty Riddle who have now discovered a method for changing pharynx cells into intestine cells.
