Communications Professor Receives NSF Grant

Norah Dunbar, professor in the Department of Communication at UC Santa Barbara, is head of a project that recently received $549,061 from the National Science Foundation to develop a video game that can help players tell when they are being deceived. The game, meant to help the law enforcement and intelligence communities, is called VERITAS (Veracity Education and Reactance through Technology and Applied Skills), and will train players to identify the heuristics (quick judgments) used in credibility assessments that detect deception using more than just visual cues.
