SAGE Sara Miller McCune Dean of Social Sciences
Melvin L. Oliver is the SAGE Sara Miller McCune Dean of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology. Previously, Dr. Oliver was Vice President of the Asset Building and Community Development Program at the Ford Foundation, and a UCLA faculty member for 18 years. An expert on racial/urban inequality and poverty, Dr. Oliver is the co-author of Black Wealth/White Wealth: A New Perspective on Racial Inequality. He earned his B.A. at William Penn College and M.A. and Ph.D. at Washington University in St. Louis, in sociology. Dr. Oliver serves on Boards of the Division of Behavioral and Social Science and Education (National Research Council), Leadership for a Changing World, National Poverty Center (University of Michigan), PolicyLink, McCune Foundation, and the Urban Institute; is a Sociological Research Association member; and has served on the Council of the American Sociological Association.
